PASTOR PETERS’ COMMUNITY MESSAGE FOR JUNE 2026.
Hello to all our neighbours and friends, this is the first of a monthly message that will hopefully encourage you with some GOOD NEWS amongst all the gloom and doom that we seem to wake up to each day. This is a story from our paper GOOD NEWS…..FOR A CHANGE !
Its the stuff movies are made of: a criminal becoming friends with the very judge who sentenced him - and then joining together to help others.
Toy Attwood spent 15 years in a cycle of addiction with over 400 arrests, 80 charges and 50 convictions for drug and alcohol-related ofences.
His Honour, Judge Peter Ross, who sent Tony back to prison in 2015, admits: Tonys offending wa underpinned by drug And alcohol addiction, but was too serious to be dealt with by way of a community sentence. Unfortunately he re-offended within weeks of his release, and by pure chance appeared before me again, having spent some months on remand.
By this time much had changed: Tony had found a firm Christian faith, and an equally firm determination to address his addictions, demonstrated by convincing a residential rehab unit , not only to accept him, but to waive their fees!”
“I decided to take a chance and passed a sentence requiring him to be treated there,
He did brilliantly, and towards the end of his sentence he approached me to ask for my help in starting Hope and Vision Communities”
